OUR HISTORy
Austrins Family Dentistry has been providing dentistry to Southwest Michigan since 1957. They have built strong family relationships through three generations of dentists; Dr. Emilija Austrins, Dr. Mikelis Austrins, and Dr. Mara (Austrins) Matison.
Dr. Emilija Austrins, graduated from University of Latvia Dental School in Riga, Latvia in 1934. She was a dentist in Latvia until her family moved to the United States in the 1950’s. To practice dentistry in the USA, she attended and graduated the University of Pittsburg Dental School. In 1957 after receiving her US dental license she established Austrins Family Dentistry.
Following Dr. Emilija Austrins tradition was her son, Dr. Mikelis Austrins. He graduated from University of Michigan Dental School in 1970. After 50 years of providing exceptional dentistry, he has now turned over the dental practice to his daughter, Dr. Mara (Austrins) Matison.
Dr. Mara (Austrins) Matison, is the 3rd generation Austrins’ dentist. She graduated from University of Detroit Mercy Dental School in 2001 and has been working as a dentist for over 20 years. She truly enjoys the art of dentistry and making her patients’ smiles look beautiful.
The three generations of dentists, together with their staff, have built Austrins Family Dentistry into a family oriented, well-liked and highly referred practice.
Austrins Family Dentistry specializes in general and cosmetic dentistry. We offer custom take-home whitening trays, Smile Series invisible braces, tooth colored fillings, oral surgery, partial and full dentures, crowns, bridges, implant restoration, sports mouth guards, bite guards for teeth grinding, sleep apnea and snore prevention appliances, as well as other general dentistry.
We are also proud to have a very successful periodontal and preventative program built within our practice. Offering deep cleanings with anesthetic, general cleanings, fluoride treatments, laser pocket elimination, laser cold sore treatment and exceptional patient education and oral hygiene instructions.
We are located near Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College, in the heart of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
